This is a promotion that seeks to reward customers who will shop and make payments to International online merchants for goods and services using the M-PESA GlobalPay virtual VISA card.
This is a VISA virtual card that is linked to your M-PESA wallet. It is available on M-PESA App by selecting GlobalPay which enables you to get your card details.
•The card includes a 16-digit card number, expiry date (mm/yy) and the security code also referred to as CVV.
No. The card is only able to pay to international online merchants such as Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Glovo etc. For payments to local merchants e.g., Jumia, customers will be receiving a message directing them to use the Lipa na M-PESA, Buy Goods option.
The promotion will run from 24th November 2023, 00:00:00 to 26th November 2023, 23:59:59 It is targeted for the M-PESA customers who will make payments on global websites and pay using the M-PESA GlobalPay Virtual Visa card during the campaign period.
To reward customers who shop on global websites and pay with the M-PESA GlobalPay Virtual Visa Card. VISA card payments are accepted online and around the world at millions of merchants in over 200 countries.
No. However, some merchants may have their own independent offers on their respective websites where they could be offering discounts.
The media channels that will run the promotion will be the Safaricom digital channels, on Youtube, twitter and Facebook handles
- Customers will be awarded with a 20% cash back reward when they shop on international global website that accept VISA as a payment option and they pay with the M-PESA GlobalPay Virtual Visa Card.
- The amount to be rewarded will be based on the value of the transaction, less the 3.5% forex charge that the customer will be charged.
- 20% of the purchase value (less the 3.5% forex charge) will be paid back to the customer’s M-PESA account within 72hrs on a successful payment made using the M-PESA GlobalPay Virtual Visa Card.
*Payments are based on Safaricom receiving confirmation from VISA that the merchant has received their funds. Note that online payments to merchants may not usually be settled immediately hence the lag time in giving the reward.
- The 20% cashback (less the 3.5% forex charge) will ONLY be awarded to the phone number that has made the payment transaction. For example, where the customer makes a purchase worth KSh. 10,000, they will pay a total of KSh. 10,350, but only KSh. 10,000 will be considered during the calculation of the cashback
- Only payments made with M-PESA GlobalPay Virtual Visa Card within the period of the promotion will qualify for the 20% cashback.
- Cashback awarded does not have an expiry duration.
- Minimum qualifying payment amount is Ksh 2000
- Maximum cashback amount will be limited to Ksh 5,000/= per customer within the promotional period of 24th November 2023 from 00:00:00 – to 26th November 2023, 23:59:59 . This therefore means that once the cumulative earning totals KSh 5,000 within the promotion period, the customer will not be eligible for more cashback award.
- As defined in (iii) above, the first batch of the cashback reward will be received by the customers by 26thth November 2023, 23:59:59, which is within 72hrs of the commencement of the promotion on 27th November 2023.
- As defined in (iii) above, the last batch of cashback reward will be received by 30th November 2023, 23:59:59 which is within 72hrs from the last day of the promotion, which will end on 26th November 2023.
This incentive is open to all registered M-PESA customers who will shop on global websites and pay using the M-PESA GlobalPay Virtual Visa card.
Customers can shop on most global website that accepts VISA Cards as a payment option. However, some merchant categories are restricted on M-PESA GlobalPay Virtual Visa card e.g., gaming, gambling, money transfer services and crypto currency.
Shopping amounts below Ksh. 2,000 will not qualify for promotion. In addition, some merchant categories are restricted on M-PESA GlobalPay Virtual Visa card e.g., gaming, gambling, money transfer services and crypto currency services. Customer will receive the appropriate error message for attempts made to such websites.
