Lipa na Data

Lipa na Data is a Safaricom service that allows customers to pay for goods and services using their data bundles instead of cash or M-Pesa.

The service is available to:

  • Customers with Neo (non-expiry) bundles
  • Customers with Go-Monthly Postpay data bundles
  • Customers on Karibu PostPay DIY data plans

Dial *544#>0 or via direct string *544*34#>>Choose Lipa na Data and then Buy Goods or paybill and follow the prompts.

Dial *544#>>Select Lipa na Data>>Choose View Bundles to see your remaining balance.

You can pay for goods and services at Safaricom merchants accepting Lipa na Data using Buy Goods or Pay Bill options. Eligible services include;

  • Payment for Fiber
  • Payment of Postpaid bills
  • Purchase of devices from any R/C
  • Payment for telematic services
  • Conversion of the data to roaming data
  • Postpaid products
  • Sambaza

The system will notify you if your data balance is insufficient, and you’ll need to recharge or adjust your payment amount.

No, Lipa na Data is specifically for paying merchants who accept this service. You cannot convert data into cash.

No, there are no additional charges for using this service.

The service uses Safaricom’s secure systems, including PIN confirmation and SMS notifications, to ensure safe transactions.

The conversion rate from data bundles to cash will be Kshs 0.06 per MB
