Pre-Qualification For Women-Owned-Businesses

In the spirit of empowerment, we invite and encourage women-owned-businesses to apply for pre-qualification in the listed categories.

We are committed to reducing inequalities and thus transforming lives.

Women make up about half the population, and therefore, are an equally important demographic in the community we operate in and our customer base. In addition, one-in-three small and growing businesses in developing countries are women-owned yet, receive far less than their share of financing.

Despite the fact that business women make significant contributions everyday by creating jobs as entrepreneurs, their businesses are struggling to grow and scale. Safaricom would like to empower them by allowing more women- owned businesses to be involved in Safaricom’ s sourcing activities, capacity development training, mentorship and coaching among other measures. In Line with our mission to ’ Transform lives’ as well as the commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals agenda and specifically (SDG 10 – Reduced Inequality) we have has taken strategic actions to reduce inequality and have made a commitment to increase progressively the procurement spend to Women-Owned-Businesses to 10% of the total Procurement spend.

To achieve this, Safaricom is involved in advocacy and sensitization for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to participate more in our sourcing events. We invite Women-Owned-Businesses to apply for pre- qualification in categories below where we have a focus for continuous capacity building in these areas under the Women In business program.

NB: A woman owned business is;

Ownership MUST be (70% and above) owned by a woman through shareholding) Managed and Controlled by Kenyan woman/women
In instances where the shareholding changes to majority owned by Women, then such changes must have taken place 18 months preceding the application

You can select multiple categories during registration.
Governance checks i.e. All companies will be screened for corruption history and conflicts of interest
Existing Supplier; If your company is woman owned, and already registered as a Safaricom supplier and would want to apply for inclusion in a different category, please do not attempt to register again, write to us using the email address below indicating the additional category and submit an updated profile of your company. Therefore, Shareholders of existing companies registered with Safaricom will not be allowed to register multiple companies to bid for different categories.
