22/10/2024 - M-PESA Foundation Invests KES 110 Million In Trans-Nzoia School Projects

The projects are part of the Foundation’s Citizens of the Future programme, which seeks to impact three million learners over the next three years.

M-PESA Foundation has launched the construction of learning facilities worth KES 110 million at Mukuyuni and Kabuyefewe Primary Schools in Trans-Nzoia County in a bid to improve education outcomes.

At Mukuyuni Primary, the Foundation will invest KES 55 million for the construction of two streams of Grade 1, 2 and 3 classrooms, the construction of two streams of Grade 4, 5 and 6 classrooms, renovation the administration block and the construction of three streams of Grade 7, 8 and 9 classrooms as well as the construction of three ECDE classroom with an office.

“At M-PESA Foundation, we believe in investing in our communities, and we have worked with various partners to impact millions of Kenyans across the country. Education is one of the most pressing issues that are critical for socioeconomic development. We want to expand education opportunities by supporting schools with infrastructure, focusing on the neediest cases,” said Joseph Ogutu, Chairman, Safaricom Foundation.

In addition, the project will see the construction of an ICT Lab with installation of equipment, the construction of a kitchen and the construction of 6-door ablution blocks for boys, girls and staff along with handwash stations. Finally, this project will facilitate the establishment of a gate and perimeter chain link fence as well as the supply of water tanks and school furniture.

The school will benefit from the renovation and equipping of a kitchen as well as the construction of ablution blocks of toilets for boys, girls and staff. Furthermore, the Foundation will erect a perimeter fence and install water tanks for their sanitation needs.

Meanwhile, at Kabuyefwe Primary School, the Foundation oversaw the facelift and equipping of administration block, the construction of 12 new classrooms, the construction and furnishing of 3 Junior School Classrooms. the construction of a school kitchen, ECDE classrooms and construction of a 40-seater ICT lab. This will be done at a cost of KES 55 million.

Since its inception in 2010, M-PESA Foundation’s education programmes have benefitted over 1.3 million learners in all 47 counties through initiatives such as the M-PESA

Foundation Academy, which enrols disadvantaged children. The Foundation also renovates schools to enable access to education in all counties.

In the next three years, three million learners are expected to benefit from M-PESA Foundation initiatives, including a scholarship programme for senior school students and a comprehensive technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programme that will contribute to improving employability among the youth.
