30/10/2024 - M-PESA Foundation Hosts Free Medical Camp In Turkana County, Benefitting 1000 Residents
Since April, the Foundation has impacted over 30,000 residents in 10 counties
Over 1000 residents in Turkana County have benefited from a free medical camp hosted by the M-PESA Foundation in partnership with Zuri Health, Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital and Lion SightFirst Eye Hospital at Kalokol Health Centre in Turkana Central Sub-County.
Some of the services offered at the camp included eye care consultations, breast and cervical cancer screening, fistula screening, general doctor consultations, diabetes screening, hypertension monitoring, the elderly and child health consultations.
“Safaricom supports access to quality healthcare, as aligned with SDG 4. Through our Foundations, we have various health initiatives, including this medical camp. We are on the journey to becoming a purpose-led technology company, and to achieve this, we partnered with Zuri Health to utilize technology to facilitate the provision of healthcare, such as AI screening, which has enabled us to accurately monitor patients with pre-existing conditions such as hypertension,” said Karen Basiye, Director, Sustainable Business and Social Impact, and the Foundations.
This marks the 17th medical camp in the second phase where over 30,000 people have benefitted from essential medical services in Nairobi, Siaya, Migori, Kiambu, Kajiado, Nakuru, Bomet, Kisii, Bungoma, and Machakos counties.
Zuri Health provides technology solutions by offering patients who attend the medical camps free follow-up consultations with doctors via SMS and WhatsApp for up to six months.
This month, the Foundation held special cancer-themed medical camps in Nairobi, Murang’a, Taita Taveta and Homa Bay counties where 3100 people were screened and 570 suspected cases were referred for treatment. In these camps, patients received free breast, cervical, colon and prostate cancer screening. Afterwards, 20 patients diagnosed with cancer in each of the camps received free medical cover for one year.
