Learners and teachers at Chepsaita Secondary School in Uasin Gishu County are set to benefit from a KES 68 million facelift by M-Pesa Foundation’s Citizens of the Future programme, which seeks to expand education opportunities in all 47 counties.

The Foundation will construct and equip science, home science, and computer laboratories, a new library, and a 100-bed girls’ dormitory and furnish an administration block to support 20 teachers at the school.

“At M-Pesa Foundation, our purpose is to transform lives through programmes in health, education, environmental conservation and integrated water and livelihoods initiatives. In education, we will continue to provide schools with infrastructure support such as we have today, and our aim is to impact three million learners over the next three years,” said Nicholas Nganga, Chairman, M-Pesa Foundation.

Since its inception in 2010, M-Pesa Foundation’s education programmes have benefitted over 1.3 million learners in all 47 counties through initiatives such as the M-Pesa Foundation Academy, which enrolls disadvantaged children, the Keeping Girls in School programme that has ensured over 800,000 girls have access to sanitary towels and through infrastructure support to schools.

In the next three years, three million learners are expected to benefit from M-PESA Foundation initiatives, including a scholarship programme for senior school students and a comprehensive TVET programme that will contribute to improving employability among the youth.
