The Gospel Industry Has Spoken; Groove Season Is Here!
Nairobi, (April 21, 2016) – The 11th annual Groove Awards with Safaricom is this year set to mark 11 years of historic achievements in the regional gospel music industry.
To kick off a series of events that will take place in the coming months, the Groove Awards will on Tuesday 26th April unveil this year’s nominees at a high profile red carpet event to be held at the Kenya National Theatre
The Nominees’ Night follows a three-month nominations and vetting exercise that involved the participation of 250 Groove Academy members representing various industry facets countrywide.
“It has been an intensive and extensive exercise but we are grateful for the support and cooperation we’ve received from the academy and groove panel. We are very excited about unveiling the nominees for this edition of the awards, which has seen interesting new entries as well as a new category – Afro Pop – introduced to celebrate a new gospel sound,” said Kevin Mulei, Groove Awards Founder.
He added: “Artists have worked hard to spread the Gospel, and it is fitting that we recognise them as they propel the industry towards further growth locally and abroad.”
Groove Awards with Safaricom is the premier gospel music awards in Kenya, and provides a platform to celebrate the gospel music industry’s talent and progress. Over the years, the event has earned local, regional and international recognition, attracting the interest and support of gospel music lovers, performers and other stakeholders.
Safaricom, the title sponsor since 2013, continues to support the event with the aim of enabling the transformation of lives through the arts.
“Music is the highest form of human expression and we have seen the power of music through its ability to draw people together regardless of age, race or background. It’s an honour to be in a position to support local artists and help them realize their dreams as well as create opportunities for employment in the creative arts. We often say that at the end of the day, Safaricom exists to transform lives, and it is humbling to see how lives are being transformed through our support of the Groove Awards,” said Sylvia Mulinge, Consumer Business Director – Safaricom.
A full list of the nominees will be made available on Tuesday night following their unveil. Public voting will open on 26th April and run up to midnight on 31st May 2016, giving the public a chance to vote in 26 categories.
On 30th April Groove tours will kick off, giving nominated artists a chance to meet their fans in different parts of the country and drum up support for their bids to win in their nominated categories.
This year’s winners will be announced on 1st June 2016 at the Gala Awards ceremony, to be held in Nairobi.
