Safaricom Unveils New Retail Unit in Nairobi

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011…Integrated communications company Safaricom has today opened an ultra modern retail unit at the recently opened Galleria Shopping Mall, along Langata Road.

The new Safaricom Shop is expected to serve the firm's growing customer base around Bomas, Langata, Ongata Rongai and Karen among others.

Safaricom currently has over 35 retail outlets spread across Kenya in a quest to take services closer to its clientele.

"The opening of this centre is informed by the commitment to take our products and services where our customers are. We believe in making telecommunication services accessible to all Kenyans wherever they are. The expansion of our retail footprint is a major component of ongoing initiatives to improve customer experience on our network," said Safaricom Chief Commercial Officer Peter Arina while presiding over the event.

Mr. Arina said with Safaricom's growing stable of services, there was need for more Safaricom Shops to address customer inquiries and other issues touching on the firm's products and services.

In keeping with tradition, the new shop is expected to provide a wide range of products and services such as M-PESA, broadband modems, Prepay, PostPay, airtime and general customer care. The shop will also stock a variety of the latest handsets and data devices at attractive prices and all sold with warranty.
"This unit offers our customers a one-stop shop to purchase voice and data solutions in a spacious and exciting manner and at a convenient location. This will save on time spent going to distant locations for the same services and in the long run save on costs," said Mr. Arina.

To add to the existing Safaricom Shops, the company is expected to open more outlets in Machakos, Kitui, Garissa, Nakumatt Junction, Maua, Narok and Kericho.

In addition, the company will open one experience centre and 20 mini-shops across the country. It costs about Ksh30 million to set-up one Safaricom Shop.

Currently serving over 17 million subscribers on its voice network and thousands of others on data, Safaricom has invested a substantial amount in expanding its retail footprint to match its growing subscriber base and coverage across the country.
