Safaricom Staff Join Elite Club of IT Specialists

Jimmy Mwangondi- Kenya's only Oracle Certified Master Certificate Holder

Leading integrated telecommunications provider Safaricom's Jimmy Mwangondi is the only Kenyan in an elite crop of 20 Africans who presently hold the prestigious Oracle Certified Master certification. The Oracle Certified Master credential is the most advanced Database Administrator certification in the industry designed for senior database professionals. Jimmy achieved this through E-Class an online program available for all Safaricom staff to develop their skills in a broad range of specialities. 

Speaking during the inaugural E-Class graduation ceremony, Safaricom's Chief Executive Officer Bob Collymore said, "As an employer of choice, we have made a conscious decision to invest in E-Class because it allows our staff to broaden their horizons in a manner that allows them to fit in their work and family schedules."

During today's ceremony, 226 members of staff were recognised for having attained E-Class certifications in various disciplines with a further 32 employees being honoured for attaining Prince 2 Project management practitioners qualifications.

"Some of these qualifications not only set us apart from other companies in Kenya, but they also earn us a unique position in Africa, given that there are few people who have successfully completed such courses," Collymore further stated. 

Safaricom is one of the few organisations that has continued to invested in education for its over 3000 employees, as a way of not only keeping them abreast with the market needs but also as a way of motivating them.
