30/01/2024 - Safaricom Rewards Loyal Customers in The ‘Skiza 100 Days 100 Winners’ Campaign
The campaign sought to spread the festive season cheer through a series of cash prizes and data bundles for participants.
Safaricom has announced the winners of the SKIZA 100 Days 100 Winners promotion, with the spotlight being on the customers who have shown unwavering loyalty and support for the SKIZA platform.
The promotion, now in its second edition, began on 3rd November 2023, and ended on 31st January 2024. It involved customers downloading skiza tunes, then clicking on a link to play trivia games on their devices for a chance to win a series of prizes ranging from data bundles to KES 100,000, with the grand prize being KES 500,000 monthly, for a period of three months.
Over the period of the promotion, Safaricom awarded three customers with KES 500,000 each, nine customers with KES 100,000 each, and multiple customers with 100 MB data.
“The SKIZA Promotion is a token of appreciation to Safaricom subscribers who have actively engaged with the SKIZA service. It aligns with our purpose of transforming lives by rewarding customers for their loyalty while providing an opportunity to enjoy exclusive content from their favourite artists,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom PLC.
Mr. Paul Elija, a farmer from Lunga Lunga, Mombasa, was the first winner of KES 500,000. He said that the winnings came at the most opportune time, and he will use the money to purchase farm equipment and fertiliser in preparation for the next planting season. He’ll also hire a larger workforce to help him till his land since it has rained more than expected this year.
Mr. David Otieno from Kibera, who runs a clothing business in Gikomba, also walked away with KES 500,000. Mr. Otieno was looking to increase his stock and pay off a few major bills that he had been putting off for later in the year. Now, he is able to clear his debts, including paying school fees for his children.
Ms. Benice Wangari Ndirangu an office administrator from Nairobi won the last Kes 500,000. She intends to boost her chicken-rearing project in the village.
Others who won the KES 100,000 cash prize include Mr. Wilfred Maina Irungu, who runs a second-hand clothes business in Lamu; Mr. David Ochieng, a government officer based in Gilgil; Ms. Ida Mudada, a market vendor from Western Kenya who deals in the small-scale sale of farm produce; Mr. Stephen Karanja, a Nairobi-based civil servant, and Mr. James Muigai who works in construction and is based in Nairobi.
The promotion was also in line with Safaricom’s youth platform, Safaricom Hook, which seeks to empower the youth through three key hooks: Technology, Culture and Career. This campaign falls under the Culture Hook, where Safaricom seeks to enable content creators to monetize their music and video content.
SKIZA was launched in 2009 as an avenue to connect content creators to their fans in the form of customised ringback tones on their Safaricom line, whereby any music they paid for served as a ringtone. Since then, SKIZA has grown to become the preferred mobile entertainment service for more than nine million Kenyans. To get a SKIZA tune, dial *421*84# and download your favourite SKIZA.
