Friday, June 10 2011… Safaricom's M-PESA service is set for a scheduled system maintenance work this Saturday night (11th June 2011) starting at 10.00 p.m.

The system will resume operation on Sunday (12th June 2011) morning at 6.00 a.m. with customers being able to transact normally.

During the scheduled maintenance, M-PESA services, including new registrations, Pay Bill, Bulk Payments, Buy Goods, M-KESHO, ATM withdrawal, International Money Transfer and airtime top-up via M-PESA will be unavailable. Customers and Agents attempting to transact on M-PESA will receive an SMS response advising them accordingly.

Commenting on the scheduled maintenance, Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore regretted the inconvenience caused to customers but stressed that it was necessary for better service offering and customers' experience.

"In line with our aim of improving our customers' experience, Safaricom shall be carrying out a planned M-PESA system maintenance work. The M-PESA service has become critical to so many Kenyans, and we regret the need to interrupt M-PESA for any period of time. No effort has been spared by Safaricom to ensure the system is back up as soon as possible and on schedule. However, I am excited by the opportunities that the improved system will continue to provide to our subscribers by enhancing service offerings in the future," Mr Collymore added.
