21/03/2025 - M-PESA Foundation to Construct KES 52 Million Maternity Unit at Tingare Health Centre in Siaya
The project aims to improve maternal health outcomes as the Foundation celebrates 15 years
The M-Pesa Foundation will construct a KES 52 million maternity unit at Tingare Health Centre in Siaya County in a bid to improve maternal health outcomes in the region.
The facility will boost health services through the construction of a 14 bed post-natal ward, a 6-bed labour ward and a 3-bed delivery room. To curb cases of infant mortality, a 9 bed Newborn unit and a 4 bed Kangaroo room will be set up and equipped. The unit’s operations will be streamlined with a new nursing station, consultation room, a reception area and pharmacy.
“As M-Pesa Foundation celebrates 15 years of transforming lives, this project is symbolic of our impact in health, education and economic empowerment. Once complete, the facility will provide essential maternal and newborn healthcare while equipping health workers with the right infrastructure to offer quality care,” said Dr. Peter Ndegwa, Group Chief Executive Officer, Safaricom PLC.
M-Pesa Foundation’s recent health programmes in Siaya County saw the groundbreaking of a maternal unit at Nyangu Dispensary in December last year and an integrated medical camp last April that benefitted 3,000 residents.
In Siaya, Safaricom through its Foundations has invested KES 198 million in education, health and economic empowerment projects impacting over 200,000 people in the county.
