Kiambu, 20th December 2023

M-PESA Foundation has today announced a KES 47 million investment to support the construction of a new maternal and newborn unit at Kigumo Level 4 hospital in Kiambu County.

The new maternity unit is set to benefit thousands of residents in the county by significantly boosting the hospital's capacity to accommodate expectant mothers and enable the facility to offer enhanced services to more women and children.

“As a foundation, we are committed to enhancing maternal healthcare across the country and curbing maternal and infant mortality. That is why we are here today for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new unit, to support our mothers and children with efficient healthcare services,” said Patricia Ithau, M-PESA Foundation Trustee.

The groundbreaking precedes the construction of a new maternity and newborn unit, as well as funding the equipping of the facility and the installation of a water and sanitation system.

“We are honoured to have M-PESA Foundation in Kiambu County, even as we continue to enhance healthcare services, especially for our mothers and children. Together, we pave the way for progress, ensuring access to essential services and the betterment of our community's health and well-being," said H.E Dr. Kimani Wamatangi, EGH, Governor of Kiambu County.

In April this year, the M-PESA Foundation also broke ground on a KES 12.8 million maternity unit at Makwa Dispensary in Kiambu County, while it continues to partner with County governments across the country to advance health through infrastructure support, maternal health programmes, and free fistula surgeries and medical camps.
