Kwale Police Officer Wins First Apartment In Lipa Na M-PESA Promotion
Safaricom has today handed over the first apartment in the ongoing Lipa Na M-PESA Do More promotion. Reuben Keitany, an Officer Commanding Police Post (OCCP) Samburu Police Post under Taru Police Station, in Kinango sub-County of Kwale County becomes the first owner of the 3-bedroom apartments located in Nairobi’s Riruta neighbourhood.
“I have been a Lipa Na M-PESA customer for long due to the convenience and affordability of the service when paying for my shopping and when depositing and withdrawing from my bank account. Emerging as the first winner of the 3 bedroom apartment has come as a sweet surprise and is a great way to start 2020. I plan to keep the house as a family home for me, my wife and 5 children,” said Reuben Keitany.
Safaricom also rewarded more than 40 Lipa Na M-PESA merchants with tuktuks as part of the promotion, with 5 businesses in each across the 8 regions named among the winners.
“Lipa Na M-PESA has become the most popular and widely accepted alternative to cash in the country due to the convenience of the mobile phone. The promotion seeks to reward our customers for using the service and also seeks to encourage more Kenyans to switch to cashless payments in the war against cash,” said Nicholas Mulila, Chief Corporate Security Officer, Safaricom.
The promotion began on 8th January 2020 and will run to 5th March 2020. Both customers and businesses stand to win more than 600,000 prizes worth hundreds of millions for making and receiving payments on Lipa Na M-PESA. Customers and businesses will receive 1 entry for every KES 100 paid or received through Lipa Na M-PESA.
Customer prizes include surprise cashbacks where 8 customers across the 8 regions will receive an M-PESA deposit every minute. Businesses that accept Lipa Na M-PESA will all receive 25 percent of their transaction charges back every midnight.
Customers also stand to win one of 6 three bedroom apartments in weekly draws, while one customer in each of the 8 regions will win a tractor with plough and trailer in the grand draw.
5 businesses in each of the 8 regions will win tuktuks to boost their business in the weekly draws, while one business in each of the 8 regions will win a 12 tonne Mitsubishi Fuso FI truck in the grand draw.
