
Martin Chere
Acting Chief Channels Officer
Martin is the Commercial Operations Lead, also known as Channel Business Development. He is responsible for delivery of Commercial Operations, which includes operationalizing the Route to Customer (RTC) strategy, partner management, franchise operations, retail operations, as well as capability and channel effectiveness.
Prior to this role, Martin was the Regional Business Lead for Nairobi Metropolitan where he was responsible for commercial sales and growth objectives within the region, and ensuring Consumer, Fintech, Fixed and Digital teams attain their goals in Nairobi Metro.
In his role as Acting Chief Channels Officer, Martin is responsible for driving Safaricom’s channels strategic objectives, focusing on sales, service experience, digitization of CARE and distribution. He also leads the implementation of efforts that enhance customer experience, interactions and engagement across various touchpoints.
Martin joined Safaricom in 2022 from Airtel Kenya where he was the Director - Sales and Distribution, for 2 years. Prior to that, he was the Head of Sales Operations Africa in charge of 14 Countries at Bharti Airtel (Airtel Africa) for 4 Years
Before joining Airtel in 2016, he was the National Sales Manager at S.C Johnson & Son (K) for a period of one and a half years and has also served as the Head of Sales & Distribution at Standard Group between 2015 to 2016. Martin began his career at Coca Cola Beverages Africa, where he started as a Sales Representative in 2003 before growing and working across several roles including Key Accounts Manager, Area Manager and Regional Manager.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Marketing from KCA University and a Diploma in IT from JKUAT University.
