Getachew has an aggregate of more than 15 years of experience predominantly in corporate legal practice but also in legal research and teaching. He spent a good part of his professional life at Ethiopian Airlines where he served in different capacities and was responsible for successful negotiation and closing of various award-winning aircraft purchase, financing, leasing, and trading deals. He was also the principal negotiator for the equity investment and management contracts of the Airline in different parts of Africa as well as infrastructure projects and project financing projects of the Airline.

Getachew holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law from Jimma University and Addis Ababa University respectively.
